The Bulfin Estate: Building A New Community 100 Ye The Bulfin Estate: Building A New Community 100 Years Ago. A little over a century ago, Dublin Corporation started a building programme that would create almost 1,000 homes in Inchicore over the six-year period 1925-1930. Using new building methods, new planning principles and new tenant purchase arrangements, the Council laid the foundations for a stable community in this inner suburb just 3 miles from the city centre. This talk by Francis Thackaberry will examine the process of transforming a disused Barracks, its adjoining field and nearby market gardens into a thriving 50-acre housing estate which contributed to solving Dublin’s chronic early 20th century housing crisis. Francis Thackaberry is a local historian with a background in education, journalism and arts administration. He is a member of Kilmainham Inchicore Heritage Group and Bulfin 100, the community heritage project which will celebrate the centenary of the Bulfin Estate over the period 2026/2027. It's Nollaig na mBan on Tuesday January 6th, and a It's Nollaig na mBan on Tuesday January 6th, and as a small gesture of acknowledgement to all the mná who do a lot of heavy lifting this time of year we will have a complimentary glass of Guinness or Prosecco and corned beef sandwiches available for all women who call in through the day. At 7pm, there will be a screening of Sinéad O'Connor's performance at Pinkpop '95 festival in the Netherlands. Featuring Emperor's New Clothes, Mandinka, All Apologies and many more, this is a beautiful show from Sinéad and band. Finally, at 8pm we have a very special trio of musicians, The Dublinettes, joining us for an evening of music and song. Featuring Caoimhe Hogarty, Claire Sherry & Jenny Ní Dhíolúin, The Dublinettes are an all-female Irish folk group that fuses lively traditional roots with a vibrant contemporary twist.
